Anti-Vogue

This autumn I took the advice from Vogue and rushed out to buy the seasons must have blacks and greys, it was something of a makeover for my wardrobe which really didn't contain any black! I have worn plenty of sobre colours in the past, pre-children my working wardrobe consisted of mostly dark shades and I am sure I wore nothing but black at some point in my teens. However, the last 7 or 8 years have been full of colours, pinks, greens, blues and following this initial rush to embrace the seasons fashion I have decided I miss colour which makes me very glad to have finished this.

Betty, from Rowan 38, in beloved Yorkshire Tweed, shade Skip, bought for a song on Ebay. I really like this one, it fits well, I made the small size, I love the colour and it is so lovely and warm. The pattern was simple to follow and inspite of every other row involving an increase into each stitch it was quite a quick knit. The stitch pattern makes quite a heavy weight fabric which means it is really a sort of cardigan jacket, very handy for me. I finished this at the start of the week and have already worn it several times and indeed was complimented on it today.

Prior to casting on for this project I did my usual google search for any blogland images of the project. I couldn't find a single finished picture which began to worry me, why didn't anyone else want to knit this? Now that I have finished Betty I still have no idea why no one else made it because I think it is a great knit, I do hope I am not deluding myself! Since casting on I have discovered that Cecile is also knitting Betty, the colour she is using looks lovely and I do hope she likes hers as much as I like mine.

Absolutely fab. Very, very nice indeed. I'm with Littlejennywren on that one - it's probably started a trend!

Fabulous! Love the colour. It's making me want one.
Your new cardi looks much better than the one pictured in Rowan - theirs looks like a very stiff fabric, whereas yours looks soft and comfortable with a nice drape. Lovely colour too.

I'm sure I've said this before, but Betty has long been on my "to knit" list. Perhaps I should move it up a few notches? I'm glad to hear that it's as wonderful to wear as it is to look at.

I too, love the colour of your sweater! It looks so cozy. This has nothing to do with knitting, but I want to say how much I like your windowsills. They are so deep, and perfect for plants, pottery, etc. Here, unless you live in a very old house, with very thick walls, you will not get windowsills like that.
This is really glamourous! I love the fastening and the fact that it meets on the shoulder and not in the middle.

Your Betty is terrific. Must have a look whether I have that Rowan mag as well and put it on my wish to do list.
Have a nice weekend.

I love your Betty its a beautiful colour and I love the fastening. I did like the pattern when that mag came out but I actually didn't get round to knitting anything from 38.

Your finished jacket Betty is so beautifull, the color is fantastic! I love the fastening. I like your photos.
What your next project?
My Betty is nearly finished, only the collar. Soon you see it on my blog.
Sorry, my English is not so good. Have a good time, Cécile

Betty is rather lovely Rebecca and a gorgeous colour. Is the Yorkshire Tweed itchy to wear ? I find I'm getting pickier these days - I think my skin dries out in the winter and feels more sensitive !

Thank you so much for modeling the jacket - yours looks so much better than the one in the book, which looks stiff and awkward to me somehow. I am inspired now, I would just love a jacket like that, so compfy looking yet stylish. I love the fastening too - please do tell us more about that. Is is driftwood, pottery, shell? I am intrigued.

I loved the look of Betty in the magazine - and I love yours even more! It's been on my wishlist for a while, actually. It's higher up the wishlist now. I love the fastening, too. And the photographs! Both are beautiful. My two main areas to work on in my blogging are 'regularity' and 'photographic quality'.

Your cardi is so beautiful, I love the style and above all the colour you have choosen. Lovely, lovely, lovely. And yes, it is strange, that not so much knitters are making it. Although I have to say that I also liked it at first glance, but never started it. Don´t know why, maybe because of the very exhausting pattern (even if you said it was quite simple, not so for me). Now I hope you wouldn´t mind if I am buying the same yarn and am making the same cardi. But I am such a slow knitter, mine will be finished when yours will be old and grey.

Your Betty is amazing! Once everyone sees how terrific yours turned out, I'm sure there will be others showing up online. Beautiful color, too.

Your Betty is beautiful! It looks so comfortable and relaxed.
And yes thankyou, I do feel proud. It was a completely new experience for me and I have had some real moments of doubt about it during the year, but now I am glad I saw it through. I came off stage after one of the dances, and just said to the others "I LOVED that". Fun!

your betty looks gorgeous! obviously betty is one of those patterns i've never did consider to knit - but now that i have two blog-inspirations my interest is growing: your betty looks much better than the on in the magazine! maybe it's the colour or/and the draping, but it looks so much better!

Betty was my favourite design in Rowan 38, but I never got around knitting it, and I can't even say why - especially when I see your wonderful version. It is truly lovely and makes me want to go pick out some yarn and needles and start knitting!
We probably sat next to each other in the habadashery shop although I was getting elastic for my Richmond Lodge knickers (although I lived near Strathern)...

I love the cardi, great colour, I can only look and envy because I don't knit (well I can knit but it's too slow and I'm not practiced enough to be any good) and I always start with great intentions and give up half way up the first side!!!

I'm in the throws of Betty at the moment and was wondering how you managed the decreases? The pattern asks for them in the wrong-side row and I'm struggling a bit to manage them along with the k2tog, p2tog...

I love the colour you've chosen for yours - it looks great on.
